Enhanced Pilot Environment

Future warfare is anticipated to be characterized by high degrees of automation, networking of combat systems, and the integration of unmanned autonomous assets. These developments necessitate the provision of enhanced situational awareness for pilots, allowing them to manage large volumes of data, execute missions efficiently, and interact seamlessly with automated and autonomous aircraft.

This call seeks to develop new cockpit environments and associated software to leverage advanced technologies such as augmented reality, virtual operator assistants, voice command, haptics, and 3D holography. These advancements will enable pilots to focus on high-value tasks by automating repetitive processes and improving mission execution effectiveness.

The specific objective of this call is to define and implement a new generation of human-machine teaming (HMT) technologies to facilitate ergonomic cooperation between crew and machine. This includes developing adaptive interfaces, decision-support systems, and innovative human-machine interaction (HMI) solutions for future collaborative air combat.

Scope and key areas include:
- Adaptive human-system collaboration to improve situational awareness and safe flight cooperation with both manned and unmanned assets.
- Advanced visualization technologies including augmented reality, helmet-mounted displays, and holographic projection.
- Crew monitoring systems (CMS) to track physiological and cognitive states in real-time.
- Innovative interaction modalities such as voice command, gesture control, and haptic feedback.

Eligible activities include design, feasibility studies, system prototyping, testing, and qualification of defence products and technologies. The call aims to deliver technological innovations applicable to existing and future combat aircraft while ensuring compliance with EU General Data Protection Regulations.

The expected impact includes the development of cutting-edge cockpit technologies, strengthening EU industry capabilities, improving mission effectiveness, and fostering cross-industry collaboration.
