IraSME Call: Flanders (Belgium)

Description

This is a bilateral R&D grant under the Ira‑SME framework, enabling international cooperation between SMEs in Germany (through ZIM) and SMEs in Flanders (through VLAIO). The aim is to support innovative development projects—resulting in new or significantly improved products, processes, services, or concepts—with strong market relevance and short-term impact. The Belgian–Flemish side focuses on business-oriented R&D carried out by SMEs in Flanders.

Scope

  • R&D projects with market applicability, demonstrating technical risk and innovation potential.

  • All technology domains are eligible.

  • Projects must involve at least one SME from Flanders and one from another participating country (e.g., Germany). Collaboration with research institutions is allowed but not mandatory

Funding

  • Grant between EUR 25,000 and EUR 500,000
  • Project duration usually max. 24 months
  • Funding rate 40 - 60 % ; a company may receive a maximum of 70 % of the total project budget

Submission Conditions

  • Consortium must include at least one Flemish SME, and at least one SME from another participating region or country

  • Belgian SME must meet VLAIO criteria:

    • Based and operational in the Flemish Region.

    • Classified as an SME under EU definitions

  • Eligible costs include staff, operational, depreciation, and limited indirect costs

  • Military-related projects are not eligible

  • National application through VLAIO’s system is required in addition to the joint Ira‑SME proposal.

  • Submission deadline: 24 September 2025

 

Expected Outcome

  • A short-term business case with measurable impact on the SME’s performance.

  • Demonstrable advancement in innovation (e.g., new product or process resulting from the project).

  • Enhancement of the SME’s competitiveness and market positioning
