Open Topic on Secured and Facilitated Crossing of External Borders

This call aims to enhance border crossing experiences for travelers and improve the operational efficiency of border authorities while ensuring security and respecting travelers' fundamental rights. It focuses on creative or disruptive solutions to improve capabilities in managing secured and facilitated checks at external EU borders. Proposals should address upcoming challenges, including geopolitical instabilities, and may build on previously funded Horizon Europe projects without duplication.

Key areas include the development of digital travel credentials, innovative surveillance technologies, secure data communication, biometric systems, and solutions for detecting fraudulent documents. Proposals should integrate perspectives on safeguarding human rights, ethics, cybersecurity, and sustainability.

Active involvement of at least two Border or Coast Guard Authorities from different EU Member States or Associated Countries is mandatory. Proposals may also involve Police Authorities and consider aspects like cost efficiency, energy efficiency, and environmental impact.

Projects must align with the TRL target of 5-6 and comply with eligibility, financial, and security-sensitive requirements, including using Copernicus or Galileo/EGNOS data if applicable.
