Like the other products of the RECS brand, the u.RECS keeps the idea of modularity by supporting multiple form-factors on two module-slots. In addition, a PCIe-based accelerator can be flexibly connected to either one of the modules. The communication is mainly based on Ethernet, however the system supports all interfaces required by the use-cases. Also the well-known monitoring capabilities of the RECS family are available.
Two Computer-on-Module (COM) slots, SMARC2.1 and JetsonNX, will support a large variety of processing architectures ranging from Intel Atom and ARM CPUs via Nvidia GPUs to Xilinx FPGAs. Especially the SMARC2.1 is a promising standard that is supported by leading embedded manufacturers. Here, we expect to see even more interesting heterogeneous COMs, including more FPGA-SoCs and ARM/ RISC-V based CPUs in the future. The JetsonNX slot supports today’s latest NVIDIA architecture that implements a powerful GPU next to an ARM multicore processor. The system supports two PCIe based extension modules, one is M.2 based and the other one is based on mPCIe.
