Siemens Gamesa and Laulagun implemented a double axis approach that combined experiments at test bench level, intended to mimic real failure development and symptoms, with other developments directly based on the analysis of data from in-service wind turbine. Physical models were implemented by both companies to assess mechanical diagnostic and prognostic capacities associated to the pitch system/blade bearing. The ROMEO project has introduced the following innovations in blade bearings of Laulagun:
– Full integration of smart temperature, strain gauge and displacement sensors in blade bearings
– Advanced modules for major failure modes compatible with CMS and tested in a relevant environment
– Novel algorithms for rolling contact fatigue and structural health
– Enhanced diagnostics and prognostic modules: Fatigue and wear of raceways detection and loss of structural integrity detection
