The Cell Doctor system is composed of three enclosures that enable the detection of defects in PV cells, their repair and finally the electrical characterization of the repaired PV cells. The first enclosure consists of machine vision and supervised learning algorithms for defect detection and classification. In the second enclosure, a laser system enables the repair of the defected solar cells by cutting or isolating defective areas. In a final enclosure, the electrical characterization of the repaired PV cells is performed. To repair defect solar cells within the solar cell production chain can represent a significant financial and ecological impact. Moreover, this technology can be used to evaluate solar cells after end-of-life modules return to the factory for recycling and reuse.
