LANDSUPPORT aims to build a geospatial Decision Support System providing a powerful set of decision supporting tools devoted to support sustainable land use and agriculture, as well as land policy implementation. The project produced a Land Take tool, available at Europe scale, which allows users to perform analyses regarding the land consumption generated by recent urban expansion and urban and spatial planning choices. In addition to quantifying the loss of ecosystem services, the tool allows for analysis based on a “what if” logic, simulating reality to orientate urban planning choices towards greater environmental sustainability. The tool was tested in terms of (i) its ability to achieve EU policies when applied at EU scale (including 7th Environmental Action Plan; COM 2006/231, Dir 2000/60/EC; Dir 2007/2/EC) and (ii) 2030 SDG’s land policies of both EU and UN agenda (SDG 2,3,13,15), with special emphasis to the key SDG15.3, “achieving a land degradation-neutral world” (LDN) and climate change (CC) mitigation goals.
