Point-of-care molecular testing device for COVID-19

Result description

A patented molecular diagnostic method has been developed by FORTH and now is exploited by FORTH spin off (BIOPIX-T) for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 at the point-of-care. It provides results within 5-20 min upon isothermal amplification of the target RNA followed by quantitative, real-time colorimetric detection. The portable 3D-printed device operates through a smartphone. The system has been validated in a hospital (TRL 8) with excellent results.

We are looking foer initial funding to complete fast-track certification for COVID-19. We expect to have a certified product for a point-of-care device for COVID-19 within 4-5 months from the initiation of the process.

Current stage description

The system is at TRL 8 for COVID-19 (tested with real samples), CYP2C19*2 testing for cardiovascular diseases (saliva samples); BRAF V600E mutation-detection for cancer (biopsy samples); and PSTVd in plants and Salmonella in milk/cheese. Manufacturing and reagent-selling partners have been identified, enabling immediate deployment and commercialization upon certification.
