The Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system is located in a building used by the Department of Visual Arts, Faculty of Arts, in the campus III of the University of Oradea. The building, which is entirely conditioned by the GSHP, has a total usable surface area of 753 m2, equally divided between ground and first floors.
The heat pump is a prototype supplied by OCHSNER. The refrigerant used is R407C, the compressor is Copeland 12M3E, and the 2 expansion valves are Honeywell TMX00051. It is internally reversible water to water heat pump with optimized performance (measured SPF >5). Heat exchangers have been especially selected to achieve the required high performances. Reversibility is also done on the water side by 3-way electric drive valves, in order to always have counter current flow in the heat exchangers.
All classrooms are conditioned by radiant walls, while corridors and restrooms by fan-coils.
The ground coupled system consists of 10 boreholes arranged in a rectangular grid. The distance between adjacent boreholes is 10 meters. Each borehole has 130 m depth and 150 mm diameter. All BHEs are single-U, with 40 mm PE80 pipe. Wet coarse sand is used for grout.
