The purpose of association discovery tools is to systematically explore semantic knowledge bases in search for relevant connections among a set of selected concepts, which may relate to cultural heritage assets, user preferences, trending topics on the media, or any dimensions of context (location, date, weather, etc.). The goal is to identify, out of the billions of semantic paths that may connect any set of concepts in sizable knowledge bases like Europeana, DBpedia and/or the private databases of cultural institutions around the world, only the paths that are worth presenting to users who are searching for cultural contents of their interest, or to Humanities experts who seek to develop narratives for cultural experiences, purposeful itineraries in a venue or around a city, thematic catalogues, documentation/educational projects, etc. It is foreseen that any cultural venue or tourism promotion organizations will be interested in getting an open, evolving set of outputs, rather than a reduced set that could be delivered once and for all.
