Diversity Connects: Networking for Equal Opportunities in Science and Research

The funding guideline 'Diversity Connects' supports projects that promote networking between interest groups, universities, and research institutions to strengthen diversity perspectives in the German science system. Diversity is essential for avoiding biases in research, fostering creativity, and improving the overall quality of scientific outcomes. Diverse teams bring together different backgrounds and viewpoints, enabling innovative and more comprehensive research approaches while promoting justice, participation, and inclusion.

The programme seeks to counteract the loss of valuable perspectives in science caused by access barriers and the dropout of underrepresented groups. It aims to create an environment where awareness of the value of diverse perspectives is increased, and all talents and ideas are heard. Supported projects may include conferences, platforms, workshops, and other formats that raise awareness, develop strategies for participation and barrier reduction, enhance the visibility of underrepresented groups, and professionalise anti-discrimination work.

Eligible applicants are universities, non-university research institutions, student and civil society organisations, associations, foundations, educational providers, and other legal entities based in Germany with proven diversity competence. The results of funded projects must be used in Germany, the EEA, or Switzerland.

Funding is provided as non-repayable grants of up to 50,000 € per project for a maximum duration of 18 months. Funding may cover personnel costs, expert fees, travel and accommodation, accessibility measures, materials, venue and equipment rental, software licenses essential to project delivery, and publication costs (including open access). Investments, standard equipment, permanent staff costs, and decorative expenses are not eligible.

The application process is two-stage: first, submission of a project outline by one of the three cut-off dates (31 October 2025, 31 July 2026, 30 April 2027), followed by an invitation for selected projects to submit a full application. Evaluation criteria include the project’s relevance to funding goals, quality and feasibility, the expertise of participants, and sustainability.

Applicants are encouraged to explore synergies with the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and to integrate intersectional perspectives and interest group involvement. Funded projects must share their results with other funded initiatives and contribute to a digital repository for transfer and sustainability.
