Evaluation and Learning through Outcome Stories
Outcome Stories is Climate KIC’s innovative Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) approach that captures impact through evidence-based narratives. It goes beyond indicators by combining quantitative and qualitative data with a systems-informed method and a clear story arc explaining how and why change happens.
Linked to Climate KIC’s Strategic Choices, Outcome Stories move beyond project-level MEL to assess organisational impact. Together with tools like rubrics and reviews, they provide actionable insights for strategic planning and are especially useful for complex innovation where change is indirect and develops over time.
In 2025, Climate KIC created the Outcome Stories Toolkit and piloted it internally, supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) under the Memorandum of Cooperation and the “MoC 2025 Activities” project.
The toolkit helps projects and partners understand changes, learn and adapt across the lifecycle, and share stories highlighting Climate KIC’s role in systemic transformation. Training in the methodology is also available for funders, non-profits and other interested groups.
