We are looking for food producers to apply the framework and develop healthier food products by design.

The NPD framework has been co-developed in collaboration with the food industry and has already been tested on real-life products, demonstrating its practical applicability.

We invite more food producers, particularly SMEs, to adopt the Nutritious by Design framework and collaborate with the project’s research institutions to gain access to food data.

Built on flexible, standardised methodology and modular design, it can be integrated across product categories, companies of different sizes, and multiple markets without significant additional resources.

For partners and investors, this means the framework can deliver more value with fewer incremental inputs improving efficiency in product development, reducing reformulation costs, and strengthening unit economics over time. Rather than relying solely on unstructured ideation and trials, NPD is supported with data analysis.

Its data-driven nature ensures it remains responsive to innovation, regulatory demands, and competitive pressures, while sustaining high-quality outputs across applications.

Nutritious by design NPD process has standardised methodologies, allowing the framework to be consistently applied across different contexts. The approach relies on common metrics (e.g., Nutri-Score, NOVA, ingredient analysis) and a clear, structured NPD process that can be followed by different teams and organisations.

The data-driven NPD framework aligns with a sustainable business model by delivering value across economic, social, and systemic dimensions. It creates value for industry partners by enabling more efficient, data-driven product development and reducing trial costs. At the same time, it delivers societal value by supporting the design of healthier food products, contributing to improved public health outcomes. By leveraging data to guide reformulation and innovation, it also supports more transparent food systems, strengthening trust among consumers, policymakers, and industry. The Nutritious by Design framework supports collaboration across stakeholders and promotes alignment with health and sustainability goals, contributing to long-term value creation beyond individual organisations.
