The reference architecture of the FORTESIE platform stores all of the relevant data for EPC to improve both the interoperability and the trustness of the data. This architecture will allow EPCs to function in a smart way allowing the calculations to be made in an standard way allowing to show the results in an understandable way.

The main focus for the development of this component is the exploration on how novel techniques can unlock a variety of use cases for the ESCOs. Currently the “basic” use case is to provide customers a privacy friendly way of checking their contracts, but the designed architecture provides the necessary building blocks to design new use cases for the whole industry.

The scalability of this component depends on which is the blockchain selected to work with the smart EPC platform. We are working towards the use of second layer Ethereum blockchains which has a cost of around 0.1$ per transaction, which can be assumed for a client once a month. This can be reduced or even dismissed depending on the level of security of the transaction comprobation and the blockchain used.

The results of these components are replicable, although some adaptation might be needed to replicate the functioning of different ESCOs.

As a very novel technique it is still too early to make predictions on the long term sustainability of the business model and we should gather more feedback on the component during the project, to evaluate how ESCOs respond to the new possibilities offered by this tool. What is sure is that the component will be susceptible to continue the work improving it.
