Global Intellectual Property | Major Utility Litigation | Strategic Investment & Partnership Opportunity
VanClare SE LLC acquired the Secure Electrans intellectual property portfolio, historically comprising four patent families covering smart utility metering, secure payment authorisation, mobile payment technologies, energy supplier switching and related systems.
International Patent Portfolio
The portfolio historically included granted patent protection across 28 countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, South Africa and 24 European jurisdictions:
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Türkiye.
Additional patent-family application records exist in Canada, Australia, China and New Zealand, representing a documented historical international reach across 32 countries.
Landis+Gyr European Patent Challenge – Opposition Rejected
In 2013, global smart-meter manufacturer Landis+Gyr Ltd challenged European Patent EP1287505B1 through formal opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office.
The opposition was ultimately rejected, and the European patent was maintained as granted.
British Gas Patent Litigation – A Significant Court History
VanClare and Meter-Tech subsequently pursued patent litigation involving British Gas. The UK Patents Court found that the accused British Gas systems would have infringed the relevant patent had it been valid, but held the UK patent invalid for obviousness.
The wider history raises questions that the patent owners believe warrant further independent examination, including concerns about potential misuse or misappropriation of intellectual property, the conduct of commercial relationships and the treatment of patent rights.
Seeking Investors and Strategic Partners
VanClare and Meter-Tech are seeking investors, strategic partners, IP litigation specialists and organisations interested in supporting an international public-awareness and evidence campaign, independently examining the documented patent and court history, investigating concerns about potential intellectual property misuse or misappropriation, evaluating any viable legal, licensing, recovery or commercial opportunities, and supporting greater transparency and independent scrutiny of the historical dispute.
Certain patents have expired, lapsed or been revoked. Any remaining rights, claims or commercial opportunities require independent legal assessment and due diligence.
Our evidence is available for public scrutiny, including historical documentation, court proceedings, supporting records and explanatory videos.
