Canadian Critical Raw Materials R&D Partnering Delegation to the Netherlands

Description

This call invites Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in a partnership development delegation (mission) to the Netherlands (February 2-6, 2026) aimed at strengthening R&D cooperation between Canada and the Netherlands in the field of critical raw materials (CRMs). The delegation will enable Canadian SMEs to engage with Dutch research institutions and industry, identify co-innovation opportunities and prepare for joint commercialization of adapted or new technology in the Dutch/European market.

Funding Information

  • Funding per participant: Up to 50% of eligible expenses (economy airfare, local transport, accommodation, meals, conference/registration fees etc) for approved Canadian SMEs.
  • Maximum amount: The general CIIP PDA maximum is up to CAD $15,000 per approved project for PDAs.
  • Funding type: Non-repayable cost-sharing contribution for delegation participation.

Submission Details

  • Application deadline: October 26, 2025
  • Notification of selection: Participants will be notified by November 7, 2025
  • Delegation dates: February 2-6, 2026
  • Application method: Online application form via CIIP portal (“Apply” button) selecting the delegation, choosing official language, and completing required questions.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Applicants: Canadian for-profit SMEs incorporated in Canada, with capacity for international collaboration or commercialization of technology, interest in co-innovation with Dutch partners, and sufficient working capital and personnel for a multi-year co-innovation collaboration.
  • Research organisations / non-profits may apply to join as observers but are not eligible for CIIP funding under this delegation.
  • Eligible Countries: Lead applicants must be Canadian SMEs. The partner/market country is the Netherlands.

Submission Conditions

  • Applicants must have a strong interest in or capacity for technology co-development with Dutch partners and expansion into the Dutch/European market.
  • Selection criteria: Technical merit of the technology, applicant’s internal capacity to manage an international R&D project with Dutch partners, alignment with CRM sector focus and delegation objectives.
  • Funding supports only eligible Canadian SMEs for the delegation; expenses must relate to the eligible costs listed.

Expected Outcome

  • Validation of Canadian technologies for the Dutch and European market.
  • Co-development of leading-edge technologies with Dutch partners resulting in added market value for both Canadian and Dutch participants.
  • Adaptation of Canadian technologies to meet Dutch/European market characteristics and acceleration of adoption in these markets.
  • Strengthened sustainable and ethical value chains in the critical raw materials sector (including recycling/re-use).

Scope

  • Technology/sector focus: Critical raw materials (CRMs) including extraction, treatment, recycling, substitution, and related value-chain technologies (e.g., comminution, concentration, drying, tailings valorisation, AI/software applied to CRM processes).
  • Application domains: Canadian SMEs wishing to expand into the Dutch/European market, adapt technologies for European value-chains, and engage in circular economy / sustainable supply-chain processes.
  • Activity type: Delegation-based partnership development activity (PDA) involving pre-briefings, market/technology overviews, site visits in the Netherlands (The Hague/Delft, Utrecht/Eindhoven region, Amsterdam) and B2B matchmaking with Dutch companies, research labs and clusters.
