Science-led open access in research institutions

This BMFTR funding call focuses on Science-led open access in research institutions.

The call funds projects that embed science‑led open access into German research institutions, disciplinary cultures and publishing infrastructures. Funding is available across three thematic areas: (1) institutional integration – sustainable financing models, cross‑institutional coordination and legal frameworks; (2) disciplinary embedding – discipline‑specific OA practices in research, publishing and evaluation; (3) infrastructural professionalisation – strengthening OA services and infrastructures to be attractive and relevant for all scientific fields.

Eligible applicants primarily include universities and higher education institutions and non-university research and technology organisations. The call mainly supports collaborative projects and consortia.

The funding aims to make science‑led open access a core element of German research culture by integrating it into governance, budgeting, evaluation, and everyday practice, thereby ensuring its long‑term sustainability and attractiveness for researchers and institutions.

The procedure is single-stage. The current submission deadline is 2026-09-30. The call uses one fixed submission deadline.
