The funding call under HORIZON-CL4-SPACE-2025-01-24 aims to support the detailed design of the satAPPS component for the EU ISOS>I pilot mission. This initiative is central to developing a modular, flexible, and sustainable European space infrastructure, contributing to a circular economy in space. The mission focuses on modular satellite functionalities and the establishment of a European construction kit for satellite systems, following an 'AppStore' approach. Proposals should address innovative research and development activities that mature enabling technologies to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 and promote applications that facilitate In-Orbit Demonstration/Validation (IOD/V). Collaboration across academia, research institutions, SMEs, and industry is encouraged, leveraging synergies with other EU and ESA-funded projects.
Opening: 03 Jun 2025
Deadline(s): 13 Nov 2025
Expected Outcome
• Development of a sustainable, automated, and economically viable space infrastructure.
• Completion of the ISOS Pilot Mission detailed mission design for the satAPPS component.
• Maturation of critical enabling technologies for pilot mission functionality.
• Demonstration of innovative modular satellite designs supporting a circular economy in space.
• Clear definition of use cases and business models focusing on governmental and commercial applications.
• Establishment of a framework for a European satellite construction kit following the AppStore model.
Scope
• Research and innovation to complete the ISOS Pilot Mission detailed mission and system design for the satAPPS component.
• Development of technologies for the satAPPS module aligned with the European construction kit concept for satellite systems.
• Advancement of SatApps modules at TRL 6 for modular and upgradeable functionalities.
• Focus on hosting In-Orbit Demonstration/Validation (IOD/V) experiments within the satAPPS framework.
• Integration with other ISOS mission components, promoting cooperation and shared goals.
• Leveraging Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, and ESA-funded project results.
