This call seeks to develop novel solutions addressing critical aspects affecting the energy security of energy network and storage technologies. Recognizing that energy security is essential for a cost-effective and sustainable European energy system, the call focuses on both the technologies and their respective value chains. Projects should aim to improve the sustainability, resilience, and overall energy security performance of grid and storage technologies in the European context.
Proposals are expected to focus precisely on one of the following areas: advanced tools to address cybersecurity risks to energy system transmission and distribution; increasing circular economy processes, recycling, re-use, or substitution of sustainably supplied critical materials and electronics; or sustainability and public perception of energy network and storage technologies as limiting factors for capacity build-up and efficient performance in a secure energy system. Additionally, projects should address essential skills and efficient skills management within the overall energy network and storage system, considering skilled labor as a crucial transversal value chain component.
The initiative aims to contribute to strengthening the European technology knowledge base on energy system security, creating technological leadership, and enhancing industrial competitiveness. By developing solutions that address key aspects of energy security, the projects will improve the security of the future European renewables-based energy system.
