This call aims to accelerate the uptake of Heavy Duty Battery Electric Vehicles (HD-BEV) in long-haul logistics across the EU and Associated Countries. The focus is on developing innovative logistics models that optimize battery size and charging strategies for various logistics scenarios. The goal is to overcome current limitations of HD-BEVs, which are largely confined to transport tasks with restricted range and considerable repetition.
Projects under this call are expected to derive in-depth insights from current long-haul transport missions along major road arteries, such as the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) corridors. They should propose cost-effective HD-BEV-based logistics and operational models, building on modular vehicle setups and sound charging strategies. Real-life demonstrations are required, involving at least eight different types of long-haul missions in different climatic conditions, including cross-border operations.
The development and implementation of software tools for decision-making are essential, considering truck configurations, charging strategies, missions, and efficient operational planning of routes and services, including interoperable cross-border services. Projects should also develop scenarios for the optimum balance of vehicle performance, configuration, and charging solutions, and create digital twins to optimize concepts, models, solutions, and operations.
This topic is part of the European Partnership on ‘Towards zero emission road transport’ (2ZERO). Projects resulting from this call will contribute to the monitoring of the partnership's KPIs.
