The Hop-on Facility aims to enhance the inclusiveness of Horizon Europe by allowing legal entities from low R&I performing countries (Widening countries) to join already selected collaborative R&I actions. This initiative provides an opportunity for research institutions from Widening countries to participate in ongoing projects under Horizon Europe Pillar 2 and EIC Pathfinder, subject to the agreement of the existing consortium and provided that entities from such countries are not already participating.
The main objective is to improve knowledge circulation, increase the visibility of participants from Widening countries, and reduce disparities in participation across thematic domains. The selection criteria focus on the excellence and added value of the new partner's contribution to the project. All consortium partners must agree to the accession of the new participant, demonstrating R&I relevance and complementarity.
The accepted application will result in a grant agreement amendment to include the new partner. The additional participant's costs are added to the project's budget, with a coordination fee of up to 10% allocated to the coordinator for integration efforts.
Expected outcomes include mobilizing excellence in Widening countries, opening established networks to new partnerships, improving research excellence, and acquiring new competencies and skills at the beneficiary level.
