This call aims to establish urban-industrial symbiosis for the sustainable valorization of bio-waste. By building a full-scale biorefinery and implementing innovative value chains, bio-waste will be converted into high-value bio-based products. This initiative supports the EU Bioeconomy Strategy, the Waste Framework Directive, and the Landfill Directive.
The project should provide solutions to reduce the amount of bio-waste currently destined for incineration or landfill. Additionally, it aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants by offering an alternative bio-waste management strategy.
Beyond the technological implementation, the call emphasizes economic and social aspects: municipalities and businesses should gain economic benefits while simultaneously increasing public acceptance of bio-based products derived from bio-waste.
The project will build on existing infrastructure and waste management systems, leveraging synergies with urban and industrial facilities. Innovative processes to convert bio-waste into higher-value bio-based products will be developed and demonstrated.
Key goals include improving the environmental sustainability of bio-based production processes, promoting circular economy practices, and strengthening regional industrial ecosystems. Regulatory frameworks concerning bio-waste usage will also be addressed.
Opening: 04-04-2025
Deadline(s): 17-09-2025
