The National Science Centre (NCN) of Poland is launching the International Multilateral Partnerships for Resilient Education and Science System in Ukraine (IMPRESS-U). IMPRESS-U is a call for research projects and is carried out in a multilateral collaboration under the IMPRESS-U programme pursuant to the Lead Agency Procedure (“LAP”) with the National Science Foundation (NSF) acting as the lead agency in charge of merit-based evaluation of proposals.
The goals of the partnership initiative are to:
- support excellence in science and engineering research, education and innovation through international collaboration and
- promote and catalyse integration of Ukrainian researchers in the global research community.
The IMPRESS-U call for proposals is addressed at research teams from Poland which will conduct joint research together with research teams from Ukraine and the United States (optionally from Lithuania, Latvia and/or Estonia) within the framework of a joint research project.
Available Funding Amount: The National Science Centre has allocated a total of 10 million PLN to fund Polish research teams participating in the IMPRESS-U program. Specific funding amounts per project are not detailed.
Submission Deadlines: Proposals are accepted from 2 August 2023 until 31 December 2025. However, the call may be suspended earlier if the allocated funds are exhausted.
Submission Conditions:
- Polish research teams must submit their proposals through the NCN's OSF submission system, including joint proposals identical to those submitted to the National Science Foundation (NSF).
- Joint proposals should adhere to the NSF's guidelines applicable to the EAGER call and include all required documents.
- The NSF serves as the lead agency responsible for the merit-based evaluation of proposals.
Eligibility: The call is primarily directed at research teams, which may include universities, research institutes, and other scientific organizations. The principal investigator of the Polish team must hold at least a PhD degree.
Expected Outcome
The primary objectives are to support high-quality research projects, promote the integration of Ukrainian researchers into the global scientific community, and aid in rebuilding Ukraine's research potential.
Scope
The call invites research teams from Poland to undertake joint research projects in collaboration with teams from Ukraine and the United States. Participation from teams in Lithuania, Latvia, and/or Estonia is optional. Projects should encompass a coherent research program with balanced and complementary contributions from all involved teams.
