Result description
The results is owned by the Associated partner Alpes Lasers SA (based in Switzerland). Since the results platform does not allow listing results owned or co-owned by associated partner, we listed this under CyRIC (the project coordinator).
The result is an array of high-power Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). The beam combined high-power QCLs developed in CONSERWA are currently at TRL4. Combined optical power is in the order of 4.5W. They are being used for weed management (weeding).

The current solution needs to be advanced in terms of TRL. To achieve the desired power levels for many application domains (>10W), a set of different lasers are beam combined. Our goal is to do that through monolithicy integration of the lasers and not as individual components, as in the current prorotype. This requires interation efforts and funding.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The beam combined high-power QCLs developed in CONSERWA are currently at TRL4, having just completed lab characterization. In terms of application, QCLs-enabled weeding is currently at TRL3 and is advancing towards TRL6 within CONSERWA.
The next step is the development of monolitic high-power QCL arrays, reducing overall size & cost and significantly improving performance (>10W power).
The device can be customised to emit in differnt wanelgths and even deliver less power if the 10W are not necessary in a certain application. Customisation can be easily done by Alpes Lasers.
Alpes is already marketing QCLs and is 100% ready to deliver theoretically infinite number of the new (combined) QCLs.
Yes, Alpes has developed a business plan for this paricular product, demonstrating profitability of over 10M euros, just five years after commercialisation
