This call, issued under the German government's strategy for internationalisation in science and research, promotes multilateral research and innovation collaboration between Europe (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAK). It is part of the 5th EU-LAC Joint Call for STI (Science, Technology and Innovation) coordinated by the EU-LAK Interest Group, involving 13 funding organisations from 11 countries. The call targets common global challenges across themes such as biodiversity, bioeconomy, energy, health, and open science (excluding German participation in open science).

German participation is led by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with support up to 100.000 Euro per project, or 120.000 Euro including the project flat rate. Projects must consist of a minimum of four eligible institutions from at least four different countries, with at least two countries from each region (EU and LAK). The research projects must demonstrate mutual benefit, scientific excellence, and potential for long-term cooperation. The submission and evaluation process is two-staged, with the initial international application submitted through PT-Outline.

Targeted research topics span biodiversity and food security, bio-based innovations, global health challenges, infectious diseases, energy transition, and digital infrastructures. The program promotes interdisciplinary and cross-regional research activities aimed at sustainable solutions for pressing global issues.
