37th IraSME Call for Proposals: Brazil

Description

The 37th IraSME Call supports transnational research, technology development and innovation (RTDI) projects carried out jointly by SMEs (and optionally research organisations) from participating countries. This call supports German–Brazilian collaborative R&D projects aimed at developing innovative technologies with strong market potential. Projects are funded jointly by Germany (via the ZIM programme) and Brazil (via EMBRAPII), with each partner financed under its national scheme. The IraSME initiative is designed to strengthen SMEs’ competitiveness by enabling international research, technology development and innovation cooperation.

Funding Amount

Funding follows the EMBRAPII co-financing model:

  • EMBRAPII funds up to one-third (≈33%) of eligible Brazilian project costs as a non-repayable grant.
  • The Brazilian industrial partner must contribute at least one-third of project costs in cash to the EMBRAPII unit.
  • The remaining share is covered by the company and/or in-kind contributions from the EMBRAPII research unit.

Submission Deadlines

  • Call open: 1 December 2025.
  • Final submission deadline: 25 March 2026.

Submission Conditions

  • A joint proposal must be submitted by the international coordinator to the IraSME network.
  • Applications must be filed simultaneously at transnational level and at each national funding agency.
  • A draft consortium agreement is required as part of the application.
  • Project duration must be 12–36 months.

Eligible Types of Businesses

Brazil:

  • Brazilian and international companies of all sizes and start-ups operating in Brazil are eligible to participate.
  • Brazilian SMEs must collaborate with an accredited EMBRAPII unit (acts as the R&D organisation).

General IraSME:

  • At least two SMEs from two different participating countries must form the core consortium.
  • Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) may participate; for Brazil this cooperation is mandatory via EMBRAPII.
  • Additional partners (e.g., large firms or organisations) may join, sometimes without funding.

Eligible Countries (37th Call)

Participating countries/regions include:

  • Brazil
  • Germany
  • Czech Republic
  • Luxembourg
  • Türkiye
  • Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia)

Partners from non-participating countries may join but must self-finance their participation.

Expected Outcome

Projects should:

  • Deliver innovations ready for market exploitation and strengthen SMEs’ international competitiveness.
  • Lead to new products, services or processes with demonstrable market potential.
  • Foster long-term international partnerships and knowledge exchange.

Scope

The call funds market-oriented, high-risk R&D cooperation projects that:

  • Develop new or significantly improved products, processes or technical services beyond the state of the art.
  • Include technical development work up to prototype level and demonstrate clear commercial potential.
  • Require structured R&D with significant technical risk for each partner.
  • Must be implemented as transnational projects with partners from at least two participating countries.

The programme is bottom-up (thematically open) and not limited to specific sectors.
