Faculty of Impact 2026

Description

The Faculty of Impact (FoI) 2026 call provides a personal grant combined with a two-year entrepreneurship and training programme for researchers who want to translate research results into societal or commercial impact.

It supports researchers in developing their ideas into practical applications (e.g. technologies, services, business models) while building entrepreneurial skills and accessing networks, coaching, and funding opportunities.

The programme is aligned with the five mission-driven innovation themes of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (Agriculture & Food, Circular Economy, Climate & Energy, Health & Care, Safety).

Funding Amount

  • Funding per project (per fellow): up to €210,000
  • Total funding available: approx. €2.73 million
  • Number of projects funded: approx. up to 13 fellows
  • Duration: 2 years (fellowship)

Submission Deadlines

  • Full proposal deadline: 26 May 2026 (14:00 CEST)

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via the NWO ISAAC system
  • Individual application (personal grant)
  • Key conditions include:
    • Applicant must remain affiliated with a Dutch knowledge institution
    • Maximum 1 FTE salary cost can be requested
    • Cannot duplicate costs already requested in other NWO funding instruments
  • Participation in the FoI training and coaching programme is mandatory

Eligible Types of Applicants

  • Individual researchers, including:
    • PhD candidates (near completion)
    • Postdocs
    • Academic staff (lecturers, professors, etc.)
  • Applicants must be:
    • Employed at or affiliated with a Dutch research/knowledge institution

Eligible Countries

  • Primarily Netherlands-based applicants (must be affiliated with a Dutch institution)
  • International researchers may participate only if employed at a Dutch institution

TRL Requirements

  • Projects must be at approximately:
    • TRL ~4 (validated in lab environment)
      OR
    • SRL ~4 (validated with relevant stakeholders)

Expected Outcome

  • Transformation of research ideas into:
    • Impactful applications or ventures (commercial or social)
  • Strengthened entrepreneurial and applied research skills
  • Development of:
    • Prototypes, pilots, or validated concepts
    • Pathways for scaling and real-world implementation

Scope

  • Supports early-stage ideas based on research with potential for societal or economic impact
  • Focus on valorisation and entrepreneurship, not purely academic research
  • Activities include:
    • Further development and validation of ideas
    • Exploration of implementation pathways and societal embedding
    • Development of business models, dissemination, and funding strategies
  • Fellows remain affiliated with their home research institution while working on their project
