13th German-Finnish Call for Joint R&D Projects of SMEs

This bilateral funding call supports collaborative R&D projects between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Germany and Finland. Launched jointly by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) through its ZIM programme and Business Finland, the initiative aims to strengthen innovation capacity and international competitiveness of SMEs in both countries.

Eligible projects must develop innovative, market-driven products, processes, or technical services with high commercial potential. Funding is provided through national funding schemes—ZIM for German participants and Business Finland for Finnish applicants—according to their respective rules and conditions. Each partner covers its own project costs partially through national subsidies and partially with own financial contributions.

Participation of additional companies or research institutions is encouraged. Finnish research institutions may only participate as subcontractors. The projects must demonstrate clear added value through international cooperation, with a balanced contribution of all partners, and should not exceed a duration of three years.

This call fosters international technology development and enhances access to complementary know-how, infrastructure, and markets for the participating SMEs in both countries.
