37th IraSME Call for Proposals: Belgium, Flanders

Description

The 37th IraSME Call supports transnational research, technology development and innovation (RTDI) projects carried out jointly by SMEs (and optionally research organisations) from participating countries. The IraSME call in Flanders supports international R&D cooperation projects between companies from the Flemish Region and partners in other IraSME countries, funded through the Flemish innovation agency VLAIO (Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship) together with partner programmes such as Germany’s ZIM. The programme focuses on development projects that create new or significantly improved products, processes, services, or concepts with clear business impact and innovation potential for SMEs.

Funding Amount (Flemish Region)

  • Grant amount: €25,000 – €500,000 per project (Flemish partner).
  • Funding rate: 40%–60% of eligible costs depending on company size and project characteristics.
  • No single company may account for more than 70% of the total project budget.

  • Projects typically funded for up to 24 months.

Submission Deadlines

  • Call open: 1 December 2025

  • 37th IraSME Call deadline: 25 March 2026.

Submission Conditions

  • A joint transnational proposal must be submitted by the international coordinator.
  • Applications must also be submitted to the relevant national/regional funding body (for Flanders: VLAIO).
  • A draft consortium agreement is required as part of the application.
  • Projects must last 12–36 months at programme level, though Flemish funding normally supports up to 24 months.

Eligible Types of Businesses / Organisations

  • SMEs with operational activities in the Flemish Region.
  • Large companies may participate only in cooperation with SMEs.
  • The programme is company-driven; development projects must generate added value for the business.

  • Collaboration with research institutions is allowed but not mandatory.

Eligible Countries (Consortium Level)

Projects must involve partners from at least two IraSME participating regions, including:

  • Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia)
  • Brazil
  • Germany
  • Luxembourg
  • Czech Republic
  • Türkiye

Expected Outcome

Projects are expected to:

  • Deliver innovative solutions with tangible economic impact for participating SMEs in the short term.
  • Strengthen SMEs’ competitiveness through international R&D collaboration and commercialization potential.
  • Result in market-relevant outputs such as new or significantly improved technologies or services.

Scope

Projects must be business-oriented R&D collaborations that:

  • Develop innovative products, processes, or technical services beyond the current state of the art.
  • Demonstrate innovation potential, technical risk, and clear market applicability.
  • Are open to all technology domains (bottom-up approach) with no thematic restriction.
  • Include partners from at least two participating countries, forming a transnational consortium.
