4th German-Chilean Call for Proposals for Joint R&D Projects

Description

The 4th German-Chilean Call supports bilateral industrial research and development (R&D) cooperation between companies in Germany and Chile to develop innovative products, processes, or technology-based services with strong market potential. The initiative is jointly implemented by:

  • Germany: Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) via the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM)
  • Chile: Corfo (Innova Chile) via the “Crea y Valida – ZIM” instrument.

The programme aims to translate applied R&D results into commercially viable solutions for domestic and global markets.

Funding Amount

Per Project - Chile:

  • Matching grant covers up to CLP 220 million (~€215,000) per project.
  • Funding intensity varies by company size:
    • Small enterprises: up to 80%
    • Medium enterprises: up to 60%
    • Large enterprises: up to 40%
  • Additional 10% funding bonus for female-led companies.

Per Project - Germany

  • German partners are funded individually under ZIM according to national rules (no fixed joint budget stated).

Submission Deadlines

  • Call open: 15 October 2025
  • Final deadline: 31 March 2026
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis within this period.
  • Projects are expected to have a duration of up to 2 years (generally).

Submission Conditions

Applicants must:

  • Submit a joint proposal in English, signed by all partners.
  • Submit separate national funding applications to their respective agencies.
  • Prepare a Consortium Agreement covering roles, IP rights, commercialization, and cooperation terms (draft required at submission; signed after approval).
  • Follow national application rules:
    • Chilean application in Spanish via Corfo.
    • German application in German under ZIM procedures.

Chilean applicants must contact Corfo in advance and undergo an advisory process to remain eligible.

Eligible Types of Businesses / Organisations

Mandatory Core Consortium

  • At least:

  • One Chilean company, and
  • One German eligible company (<500 employees) independent from each other.

Additional Participants

  • Research and technology organisations (RTOs) and additional firms may participate.
  • In Chile, RTOs may participate only as subcontractors.

Germany-specific Eligibility

  • SMEs with operations in Germany are eligible.
  • Medium-sized firms (<1,000 employees) may participate if collaborating with an eligible SME.
  • RTOs may apply as cooperation partners.

Chile-specific Eligibility

  • Companies must:
    • Be legally established in Chile,
    • Be at least 24 months old,
    • Demonstrate sales in the last 24 months.

Eligible Countries

  • Germany and Chile are the funded partner countries.
  • Partners from other countries may participate, but receive no funding from this call and must secure their own financing.

Expected Outcome

Projects should deliver:

  • Market-oriented R&D results leading to commercial products, processes, or technical services.
  • Strengthened German-Chilean innovation partnerships and shared technological development.
  • Validation of solutions at industrial or commercial scale (supported in Chile through prototype-to-validation activities).

Scope

The call funds joint German-Chilean industrial/technological R&D projects across all technology and application areas that:

  • Develop new or significantly improved products, services, or processes.
  • Are based on the international state of the art.
  • Demonstrate clear added value from bilateral cooperation (e.g. knowledge transfer, access to infrastructure, new applications).
  • Target commercialization after project completion.
