6th German-Swedish Call for R&D Projects of SMEs

The 6th German-Swedish call supports collaborative research and development (R&D) projects between medium-sized enterprises from both countries. Jointly initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) under the ZIM programme and the Swedish innovation agency Vinnova, this initiative aims to promote the development of innovative products, processes, or technical services with high market potential.

Projects must involve at least one SME from Germany and one from Sweden and should demonstrate balanced cooperation with a clear commercial focus. The call is open to projects from all technology and application areas. Additional partners, including research institutions and companies from third countries, may participate but are not eligible for funding through ZIM or Vinnova.

All proposals must be submitted by 18 September 2025. Projects are expected to start no later than 31 May 2026 and have a maximum duration of 2 years. National application procedures and evaluation processes are handled independently in each country.

Scope

• Bilateral R&D projects between German and Swedish SMEs
• Development of innovative products, services, or processes
• Projects from any technological or application field
• Minimum one SME from Germany and one from Sweden
• Involvement of research institutions and other enterprises allowed
• Maximum project duration: 2 years
• Cooperation must be balanced and substantial from all parties
• Clear commercial potential expected
• National applications must be submitted in parallel
• Eligible participants must comply with respective national regulations
