Advanced manufacturing supply chain innovation FS

Description

This competition, funded by Innovate UK (part of UK Research and Innovation), invites UK registered businesses and research and technology organisations (RTOs) to apply for feasibility studies that explore new ways to make supply chains more resource-efficient and resilient. It targets cross-cutting supply-chain challenges across defined high-growth sectors and advanced manufacturing frontier industries.

Funding Amount per Project & Total Funding

  • Total funding available: Up to £5 million across the competition.
  • Per project: Eligible projects can request a grant of between £50,000 and £100,000 in total eligible grant funding.

Submission Deadlines

  • Competition opens: Monday 2 February 2026
  • Competition closes: Wednesday 11 March 2026 at 11:00am UK time
  • Applicants notified: 29 April 2026
  • Project start date: 1 July 2026

Submission Conditions

Applicants must:

  • Submit through the Innovation Funding Service (online application required).
  • Ensure all application sections are complete before the deadline; submissions cannot be amended after closing.
  • Follow the guidance on eligible costs and project details as outlined in the competition guidance.
  • Include at least one end user involvement within the project proposal.
  • Provide a clear rationale for any overseas subcontractors if included (with justification).

Eligible Types of Businesses

  • Lead organisations must be UK registered businesses of any size or UK registered RTOs.
  • Collaborators can include:
    • UK registered businesses (any size)
    • Academic institutions
    • Charities / not-for-profits
    • Public sector organisations
    • Research and technology organisations (RTOs)

Notes on roles:

  • A UK registered business or RTO can lead a collaborative project.
  • RTOs cannot work alone (they must be in collaboration).
  • Non-funded partners (including non-UK entities) are permitted but do not claim funding.

Expected Outcome

Funded projects are expected to:

  • Deliver feasibility studies that identify innovative approaches to strengthen supply chain resilience and resource efficiency;
  • Demonstrate clear potential for application across multiple sectors and contribute to broader UK supply chain competitiveness;
  • Provide evidence of technical, operational, and commercial viability, with industry involvement in the project design and execution.

Scope

  • Be feasibility studies focused on solutions that are new or not yet widely used;
  • Address improvements in resource efficiency and resilience of supply chains that are transferable across industries;
  • Be aligned with at least two of the following high-growth sectors: Advanced manufacturing, Clean energy industries, Creative industries, Defence, Digital and technologies, Life sciences;
    or with at least two of the Advanced Manufacturing frontier industries (e.g., automotive, batteries & energy storage, aerospace, advanced materials, agri-tech & processing technologies, space);
  • Involve at least one end user in the project (as a collaborator or in an advisory capacity).
