Collaboration with Czech Republic – FWF

Description

The programme supports bilateral and multilateral basic research collaborations between Austria and the Czech Republic, implemented by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in cooperation with the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR).

It is part of the Weave network, which enables funding of closely integrated international research projects evaluated through a coordinated “Lead Agency” procedure. The goal is to promote joint research projects where partners combine complementary expertise and generate added scientific value through international cooperation.

Funding Amount

  • Per project:
    • Follows FWF PI Projects or Clinical Research funding rules
  • Funding duration:
    • 24 or 36 months
  • Funding model:
    • Each agency funds its own national part of the project (FWF for Austria, GA ČR for Czech Republic)

Submission Deadlines

  • FWF (Austrian side):
    • Rolling submissions (no fixed deadline)
  • GA ČR (Czech side):
    • 31 March 2026 for certain cycles)
  • Submission rule:
    • Applications must be submitted to both agencies
    • Within 7 days of submission to the lead agency

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via:
    • FWF elane system
  • Dual submission required:
    • FWF (Austria)
    • GA ČR (Czech Republic)
  • Key requirements:
    • Project must be jointly designed and scientifically integrated
    • Must follow:
      • FWF Principal Investigator Projects guidelines, or
      • FWF Clinical Research guidelines
  • Evaluation:
    • Based on international peer review
    • Conducted by the lead agency (FWF or GA ČR) depending on submission route

    • Austria
    • Czech Republic
    • Optional third Weave partner country
  • Key features:
    • Projects must be closely integrated and scientifically interdependent
    • Each partner must contribute substantial scientific input
    • Projects must be co-designed and not separable into national sub-projects
  • Thematic scope:
    • Open to all disciplines, including clinical research
  • Applicable FWF schemes:
    • Principal Investigator Projects
