Collaboration with Luxembourg – FWF

Description

The programme supports closely integrated cross-border research collaborations between Austria and Luxembourg, implemented by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in cooperation with the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). It is part of the Weave network, enabling joint funding of bilateral (and optionally trilateral) research projects where partners combine complementary expertise.

Funding Amount

  • Per project:
    • Funding is project-specific, following FWF or FNR programme rules
  • Funding duration:
    • Up to 48 months (FWF as lead agency)
    • Up to 36 months (FNR as lead agency)
  • Funding model:
    • Each funding organisation finances its own national project component

Submission Deadlines

  • FWF as lead agency:
    • Rolling submissions (no fixed deadline)
  • FNR as lead agency (current call):
    • 21 April 2026 (14:00 CET)
  • Additional rule:
    • Submission to partner agency must occur simultaneously or within 7 days

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via:
    • FWF elane portal
  • Additional requirements:
    • Must also be submitted to the partner funding agency (FNR)
  • Applicable rules:
    • FWF applicants must follow:
      • Principal Investigator Projects guidelines, or
      • Clinical Research programme guidelines
  • Key conditions:
    • Projects must be jointly developed and scientifically integrated
    • Must comply with both national funding regulations
  • Evaluation:
    • If FWF is lead agency → FWF peer review process
    • If FNR is lead agency → evaluation under FNR CORE programme rules
