Collaboration with Poland – FWF

Description

The programme supports bilateral and multilateral research collaborations between Austria and Poland, implemented by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in cooperation with the Polish National Science Centre (NCN). It is part of the Weave network, which enables joint funding of closely integrated international research projects through a coordinated evaluation process.

Funding Amount

  • Per project:
    • Funding is project-specific, according to FWF or NCN programme rules
  • Funding duration:
    • 24, 36, or 48 months
  • Funding model:
    • Each funding agency finances its own national project component (FWF for Austria, NCN for Poland)

Submission Deadlines

  • FWF as lead agency:
    • Rolling submissions (no fixed deadline)
  • NCN as lead agency:
    • 15 December 2025
  • Additional rule:
    • Proposal must also be submitted to the partner agency simultaneously or within 7 days

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via:
    • FWF elane electronic portal
  • Additional requirements:
    • Must also be submitted to the Polish NCN system
  • Applicable rules:
    • FWF applicants must follow:
      • Principal Investigator Projects guidelines, or
      • Clinical Research programme guidelines
  • Key conditions:
    • Projects must be jointly developed and scientifically integrated
    • Financial and administrative data must be consistent across both submissions
  • Evaluation:
    • Based on international peer review
    • If NCN is lead agency → evaluated under NCN OPUS programme rules

  • Optional: third Weave partner country

  • Promote high-quality international scientific collaboration

  • Generate scientific added value through cross-border cooperation

    • Poland
    • (Optionally) a third Weave partner country

    • Projects must be closely integrated
    • All partners must provide substantial scientific contributions
    • Projects must generate added value through international cooperation
