Description

The programme supports closely integrated bilateral research collaborations between Austria and Switzerland, implemented by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in cooperation with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). It is part of the Weave network, enabling joint funding of transnational, bottom-up research projects in which researchers from both countries (and optionally a third Weave partner country) collaborate on shared research questions.

Funding Amount

• Per project:
  • Funding follows standard FWF programme rules (PI Projects or Clinical Research)
• Funding duration:
  • Up to 48 months
• Funding model:
  • Each funding agency finances its own national project component (FWF for Austria, SNSF for Switzerland)

Submission Deadlines

• FWF (Austrian side):
  • Rolling submissions (no fixed deadline)
• SNSF (Swiss side):
  • Fixed deadline: 1 April 2026
• Submission rule:
  • Applications must be submitted to both agencies
  • Either simultaneously or within 7 days of each other

Submission Conditions

• Applications must be submitted via:
  • FWF elane electronic portal
• Dual submission required:
  • FWF (Austria)
  • SNSF (Switzerland)
• Applicable rules:
  • Must follow:
    • Principal Investigator Projects guidelines, or
    • Clinical Research programme guidelines
• Key requirements:
  • Projects must be jointly designed and scientifically integrated
  • Both national parts must be consistent and complementary
  • Standard FWF documentation required (CV, project description, budget, etc.)
• Evaluation:
  • Based on international peer review
  • If SNSF is lead agency → evaluated under SNSF procedures
