This call aims to assess and enhance the energy security and industrial competitiveness of value chains for advanced biofuels and renewable fuels of non-biological origin within the EU. In light of new geopolitical circumstances and market situations, proposals should evaluate how these technologies contribute to the EU's energy security and industrial competitiveness through detailed value chain analysis, future scenarios, macroeconomic modeling, and strategic decision-making methods.
Projects should identify research and innovation actions needed to improve these aspects and implement research activities for optimization. The scope includes addressing competitiveness, energy security, and integration challenges across various steps in the value chain, engaging stakeholders such as farmers, CO2 suppliers, technology providers, researchers, fuel producers, end-users, and policymakers. Multidisciplinary issues related to sustainable farming, carbon removals, fuel standardization, and land use trade-offs will be considered to achieve integrated solutions benefiting all stakeholders.
A sustainability assessment, including techno-economic, environmental, and social aspects based on life-cycle analysis, will be carried out. The initiative aims to enhance common knowledge and understanding among diverse stakeholders, promoting sustainable development and accelerating renewable fuel innovation.
