This Horizon Europe Innovation Action (IA) call aims to develop cost-effective and robust continuous biotech bio-based processes to improve sustainability and competitiveness in industrial biotechnology. The focus is on transitioning from batch or fed-batch processes to continuous biotech processes for bio-based chemicals, materials, and ingredients.
Key objectives include:
- Enhancing process efficiency, reducing equipment downtime, and lowering operational costs.
- Addressing contamination risks, genetic stability of cells, and improving monitoring and control systems.
- Demonstrating continuous biotech processes for microbial, cell factory, or enzymatic production.
- Implementing efficient downstream processing (DSP) systems to achieve high purity.
- Integrating AI and digital tools for monitoring and control.
- Applying the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) framework for environmental sustainability.
The results of the projects funded under this call will contribute to EU initiatives such as the Bioeconomy Strategy, Circular Economy Action Plan, EU Zero Pollution Ambition, and the EU Industrial Strategy.
Opening: 04-04-2025
