This call seeks proposals to provide in-depth assessments leading to novel solutions that improve critical aspects of specific renewable energy technologies and their value chains, impacting the EU's energy security. Projects must address one of the following areas: sustainability and social awareness of specific renewable energy value chains (either hydropower or bioenergy), skills for renewable energy value chains, or complexity for specific renewable energy value chains (either grid-based RFNBOs or direct solar fuels). Proposals should focus on developing solutions that enhance the overall capacity of the specific value chain to contribute to improved energy security for Europe in the long run.
Projects are expected to build on the results of the 'Study on clean energy R&I opportunities to ensure European energy security by targeting challenges of distinct energy value chains for 2030 and beyond' and explicitly indicate which of the three areas they address.
Opening Date: 16 September 2025
Deadline: 17 February 2026
Expected Outcome
- Strengthened European knowledge base, skills, research, and industrial leadership on energy-security aspects of renewable energy value chains.
- Development of technical and value chain solutions improving energy security of renewable energy technologies.
- Strengthened availability of skilled labor to increase the intra-European share of value chains.
- Improved competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of European renewable energy value chains.
Scope
- Provide in-depth assessments leading to novel solutions improving critical aspects of specific renewable energy technologies and their value chains.
- Address one of the following areas:
- Sustainability and social awareness of specific renewable energy value chains (hydropower or bioenergy).
- Skills for renewable energy value chains.
- Complexity for specific renewable energy value chains (grid-based RFNBOs or direct solar fuels).
- Build on results of relevant studies targeting challenges of distinct energy value chains for 2030 and beyond.
