ERC Visiting Research Fellowship

Description

The ERC Visiting Research Fellowship programme, funded by the Republic of Cyprus under RESTART 2016–2020, supports researchers in Cyprus to spend 3–6 months abroad (continuous or split) hosted by an ERC Grantee.
The aim is to strengthen the researcher’s profile and facilitate knowledge exchange in an international environment while preparing a proposal for one of the European Research Council (ERC) Horizon Europe calls (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, or Synergy Grant). The prepared ERC proposal must be submitted during the project period, with a Host Organisation in Cyprus.

Funding Information

  • Funding per Project: €25,000 – €50,000 (depending on the duration abroad; up to €8,334 per month for 3–6 months).
  • Eligible Costs: Personnel costs (during stay abroad), travel and accommodation expenses (actual costs).
  • For enterprises and certain private organisations, funding is provided under De Minimis aid rules (EU Regulation 2023/2831).

Important Dates

  • Publication Date: 27 May 2024
  • Submission deadline: 30 September 2025, 13:00, or until the budget is exhausted (first-come, first-served for eligible proposals).

Eligible Types of Organisations

  • Research Organisations (A1, A2)
  • Enterprises (B1, B2, B3)
  • Other Organisations (C1, C2)

Eligible Countries

  • Project Coordinators must be based in Cyprus (Host Organisation in areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus).
  • Hosting abroad can be in any country with an active ERC Grantee.

Expected Outcome

  • Higher quality and competitiveness of ERC proposals from Cyprus-based researchers.
  • Improved research skills, international networks, and scientific excellence of participating researchers.
  • Increased participation and success rates of Cypriot researchers in ERC funding schemes.

Scope

  • Encourage more excellent early-career and advanced researchers in Cyprus to apply to ERC calls.
  • Enhance research capacity in Cyprus by fostering international collaboration and exposure to top-level ERC-funded research.
  • Strengthen proposals to ERC Horizon Europe calls through first-hand experience abroad with ERC grantees.
