Full-size Demonstrators for Next Generation Soldier Systems

This call aims to develop the next-generation dismounted soldier system (NGDSS), leveraging synergies with existing EDF projects and NATO efforts. It seeks to enhance technical maturity, demonstrate innovative technologies, and improve soldier effectiveness, resilience, and survivability in high-intensity combat scenarios. The project emphasizes an open-source architecture for soldier systems, enabling interoperability, modularity, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies.

A key component is the financial support to third parties (FSTP), which enables small companies, including start-ups, to receive acceleration support and demonstrate innovative solutions for soldier systems. This includes ballistic protection, textiles, light batteries, electronic equipment, and sensors, allowing smaller entities to explore business opportunities in the defense sector.

The proposals must cover key activities such as updating the European open and modular architecture for soldier systems, developing new equipment and subsystems, prototyping, testing under combat conditions, and integrating emerging technologies like AI, augmented reality, and unmanned systems.

The project also aims to develop innovative protective materials, cyber defense measures, power management solutions, and networking capabilities to ensure effective battlefield operations. By supporting SMEs and start-ups, the initiative promotes a broader defense innovation network across the EU, EDF-associated countries, and Ukraine.
