Future Modular Multifunctional Land Platforms and Enabling Technologies, Including Green Technologies

The European Defence Fund (EDF) has launched a funding call under EDF-2025-DA-GROUND-FM2LP aimed at increasing the maturity of enabling technologies to enhance the performance and effectiveness of armoured land platforms. The goal is to improve modularity, multifunctionality, and energy efficiency, while maximizing synergies, standardization, and interoperability across different land vehicle families.

This call seeks proposals that focus on developing, qualifying, and certifying systems, subsystems, and enabling technologies, including green technologies. The projects should validate that vehicle systems meet operational requirements and adhere to applicable military and civilian standards.

Key objectives include:
- Development and verification of advanced enabling technologies.
- Increasing technological maturity and validating operational performance.
- Certification and standardization compliance for military and civilian requirements.
- Identification of stakeholders’ needs for various land platform variants such as logistics, command and control, evacuation, and reconnaissance.
- System architecture design to maximize standardization and interoperability.
- Testing prototypes of different system variants and identifying potential security of supply risks.
- Studying strategies for material and component resilience, including circular economy approaches.

The eligible activities include:
- Studies for feasibility, requirements analysis, and security of supply bottleneck assessment.
- Design of technological solutions and system variants.
- Prototyping of multiple vehicle system variants.
- Testing, qualification, and certification of defence vehicle systems.
- Development of life cycle support and logistics solutions.

Expected outcomes include advancing the EU’s capability in next-generation armoured platforms, reducing environmental impact, and improving the technological and industrial base for European defence vehicles. The call encourages cross-border cooperation to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy in armoured vehicle systems.

Expected Outcome

The funded projects should contribute to:
