The FutureFoodS Call 2024 aims to jointly develop an EU-wide research and innovation framework to accelerate the transition to a sustainable food system. The mission is to contribute to healthy diets that are safely and sustainably processed, consumed and governed at European level. It aims to generate knowledge that enables governments, businesses and citizens to truly enable system transformations.
Purpose
FutureFoods has prioritised three topics for this first call. They reflect the need for new knowledge and innovations in society and the food sector. In each application one of the following three call topics can be chosen:
Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
Topic 2: New foods – Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand and supply reorientation
Topic 3: Empowering sustainable food choices – Enabling environments and dietary shifts
Who can apply
The following countries will participate in this call: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Türkiye.
Research consortia must be comprised of a minimum of three partners from at least three Member States or Associated Countries participating in the call and be eligible to request funding from the FOs participating in this call and providing funding for the selected topic.
For applicants from Dutch universities and eligible knowledge institutions, funding is available from NWO – see Annex I of the Call for proposals for the possibilities.
The added value of transnational collaboration should be clearly stated in the application.
What to apply for
For research proposals in this round, consortia can apply for a maximum of € 400,000 in funding from NWO.
When to apply
The submission deadline for pre-proposals is 15 January 2025, at 13:00 CET.
The submission deadline for full proposals is 9 July 2025, at 13:00 CEST.
