This funding call under Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025 focuses on the development of Innovative Advanced Materials (IAMs) for use in sealants and coatings. The goal is to address the bottlenecks in manufacturing and assembly processes caused by slow curing times and inefficiencies in current materials. The call emphasizes solutions that improve product longevity, lower maintenance costs, enhance recyclability, and reduce environmental impacts. Applicants are expected to deliver IAM-based coatings and sealants that provide robust protection, functionalized surfaces, and advanced functionalities, such as thermal or acoustic properties. Projects should leverage digital technologies for material design and production while contributing to standardization and international cooperation, particularly with Japan. Proposals must also include a business case and outline exploitation strategies.
Opening: 22 May 2025
Deadline(s): 23 Sep 2025

This funding opportunity represents a pre-agreed draft that has not yet been officially approved by the European Commission. The final, approved version is expected to be published in the first quarter of 2025. This draft is provided for informational purposes and may be used to preliminarily form consortia and develop project ideas, but it is offered without any guarantees or warranties.
Expected Outcome
- Support the implementation of the EU’s Advanced Materials strategy for industrial leadership.
- Prolong the lifespan and enhance the performance of products across various sectors.
- Lower maintenance needs and overall costs of ownership for structural and functional components.
- Drive industrial adoption of IAMs through integration into multi-functional materials and streamlined production processes.
- Reduce environmental impacts by improving resource efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and substituting hazardous substances.
- Accelerate the evaluation and prototyping processes for faster market deployment of IAM-based solutions.
Scope
- Develop robust, fast-curing sealants and coatings based on Innovative Advanced Materials (IAMs).
- Address challenges of product aging and premature failure caused by environmental exposure.
- Create materials with:
- Multiple functionalities (e.g., mechanical robustness, protection against environmental agents, compatibility with various processing methods, thermal, acoustic, or tribological properties).
- Enhanced recyclability and circularity for sustainable lifecycle management.
- Reduced curing times by at least 90% compared to the state-of-the-art.
- Improve production methodologies to facilitate automated and precision applications.
- Explore methodologies for assessing material degradation and ensuring performance in harsh environments.
- Integrate new digital technologies to advance material design and scalability.
- Contribute to standardization and data-sharing practices in IAM technologies.
- Promote synergies with existing European and international projects, with a focus on collaborations with Japan.
