Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) – Call 12 (2026)

Description

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) Call 12 is a single-stage, applicant-driven Horizon Europe partnership call supporting cross-sectoral, large-scale collaborative research and innovation projects in health and life sciences. It aims to address unmet public health needs through projects aligned with the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SIRA) and requires strong public-private collaboration, including significant industry participation.

Funding Amount

  • Total budget: €163.1 million
  • Per project: Varies depending on topic (topic-specific budgets range approx. €9.8M–€60M)
  • Additional condition:
    • At least 45% of eligible project costs must be covered by industry partners (in-kind or other contributions).

Submission Deadlines

  • Opening date: 15 January 2026
  • Deadline: 21 April 2026 (17:00 Brussels time)

Submission Conditions

  • Single-stage submission (full proposal submitted at once)
  • Submission via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal
  • Projects must:
    • Be collaborative consortia
    • Include at least three organisations from three different countries
    • Ensure significant industry participation (≥45% cost contribution)

  • Universities and universities of applied sciences

Eligible Countries

  • EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries
  • Specific additional eligibility:
    • United Kingdom & Canada: eligible for Topics 1, 2, 3, 5
    • Switzerland & South Korea: eligible for Topics 1, 2, 3 only

Expected Outcome

  • Development of innovative, integrated healthcare solutions
  • Improved understanding of health determinants
  • Enhanced coordination of fragmented research efforts
  • Increased use of digital technologies and health data
  • Better evaluation of healthcare innovations’ added value

Overall, projects should deliver transformative impact on healthcare systems and public health by addressing unmet needs.

Scope

Projects must align with one of five thematic areas:

  1. Understanding determinants of health
  2. Integration of fragmented health R&I efforts
  3. People-centred integrated healthcare solutions
  4. Digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare
  5. Assessment of added value of innovative healthcare solutions

These projects are cross-sectoral and must contribute to IHI’s strategic objectives in health innovation.
