This call aims to support European battery cell manufacturers in transitioning from incumbent liquid electrolyte lithium-ion batteries to high-performance solid-state lithium-ion batteries. Projects should focus on integrating advanced materials, cell design, and manufacturing processes to enhance existing production lines without overhauling the entire system. The scope includes full solid-state electrolyte technologies (Generation 4a, 4b, and 4c) and quasi solid-state electrolyte technologies combined with Si-C composite anodes or lithium metal anodes. Activities should cover process-specific machinery upgrades, feasibility and impact validation, advanced materials and cell design integration, and digitalization and data analytics for process control. The objective is to increase diversity of chemistries and cell designs, enabling European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to stay competitive and target scaled production for premium products in the mid-term and large-scale production for the automotive industry in the longer term.
