Overall Description

InterTradeIreland offers two small travel-support schemes to help organisations in Ireland and Northern Ireland develop joint participation in Horizon Europe:

1. Cross-Border Collaboration Voucher — supports early-stage North–South partnerships meeting on the island of Ireland to explore potential Horizon Europe project ideas.
2. EU Travel Voucher — supports existing North–South partnerships travelling to relevant European events or meetings to develop a specific Horizon Europe collaboration.

These vouchers support partnership and proposal development; they do not fund the underlying research or innovation project.

Funding Amount

Additional points:

• Support is provided through reimbursement of approved expenses.
• Successful applicants receive an expenses claim form.
• No funding rate or minimum applicant contribution is specified.
• The total programme budget and number of available vouchers are not published.
• Vouchers are limited and therefore subject to availability.

Submission Deadlines

• No fixed closing date is stated.
• Applications appear to be accepted on a rolling basis while vouchers remain available.
• InterTradeIreland recommends applying early because the number of vouchers is limited.
• Applications are normally assessed within two weeks.
• An approved voucher is valid for six months.

Submission Conditions

• Applicants must complete the relevant short application form.
• Separate Cross-Border Collaboration Voucher forms are provided for:
  • Academic applicants.
  • Company applicants.
• A separate form is provided for the EU Travel Voucher.
• Completed applications must be emailed to horizoneurope@intertradeireland.com.
• Travel should not be treated as approved until InterTradeIreland issues its decision.
• Only travel and accommodation costs are expressly identified as redeemable expenses.
• Claims must remain within the applicable voucher ceiling and include VAT.
• Approved costs are claimed using the expenses form supplied by InterTradeIreland.

Cross-Border Collaboration Voucher conditions

• The proposed meeting must involve travel between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
• The applicant must be meeting a partner or potential partner in the other jurisdiction.
• The purpose must be to explore engagement in Horizon Europe.

EU Travel Voucher conditions

• An existing North–South partnership is required.
• Both partners must jointly identify the Horizon Europe opportunity requiring travel.
• Both partners must explain the nature of the collaborative project in the application.
• Evidence of the collaboration must be provided.
• InterTradeIreland may request further evidence or confirmation.
• The travel must directly further the joint cross-border opportunity.

Eligible Types of Businesses and Organisations

The available application forms expressly accommodate:

• Companies.
• Academic institutions and academic applicants.

More broadly, the scheme is intended for organisations and individuals working through an eligible Ireland–Northern Ireland Horizon Europe partnership.

Applicants whose organisational status is unclear should confirm eligibility directly with InterTradeIreland before applying.

Eligible Countries and Territories

The essential geographical requirement is a cross-border partnership involving:

• Ireland, and
• Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

For the Cross-Border Collaboration Voucher, eligible travel is between these two jurisdictions.

For the EU Travel Voucher, the Ireland–Northern Ireland partners may travel to relevant Horizon Europe meetings or events in Europe.
