The 'Large-Scale Production of Liquid Advanced Biofuels and Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin' call aims to mobilize industrial capacity for advanced biofuels and renewable fuels in the EU. Addressing the significant volumes needed for sectors like aviation, shipping, and energy-intensive industries, this initiative seeks proposals demonstrating innovative large-scale production of ready-to-deploy advanced biofuels and renewable fuels. Projects should engage feedstock developers, technology providers, fuel suppliers, and end-users to assess the impact of real-size feedstocks on plant design and feasibility.
Participants are expected to de-risk innovative technologies, reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX) and production costs, and boost scale-up of advanced biofuels and renewable fuels, contributing to their market uptake. Proposals should focus on utilizing various EU sustainable biomass feedstocks, notably biogenic residues and wastes, and non-biological origin feedstocks like renewable hydrogen and CO2. A strong investment and business case, including plans for scalability, commercialization, and deployment, is required. Projects should also include a life-cycle analysis assessing sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction from fossil equivalents.
This initiative supports the implementation of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) Action for Renewable Fuels and Bioenergy, contributing to EU energy security and industrial competitiveness. It aims to improve the sustainability, reliability, and security of the relevant value chain, benefiting public authorities, citizens, researchers, and industrial stakeholders.
