Description

This initiative provides Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with both advisory services (technical and business) and financial support to develop, demonstrate and commercialize innovative clean technologies that deliver measurable environmental benefits for Canada.

Funding Information

• Percentage support: SMEs must demonstrate commercialization plan etc. The broader IRAP program indicates potential funding of up to 60-80% of labour costs and varied percentage support for subcontractor costs.
• Type of funding: Non-repayable financial contribution (cost-sharing) in conjunction with advisory services.

Submission Details

• The program is open for continuous intake for eligible SMEs to contact NRC IRAP.

Eligibility

• Applicant type: Canadian for-profit small or medium-sized business (SME), incorporated in Canada, with fewer than 500 full-time-equivalent employees working in Canada.
• Additional requirements: Must have staff beyond founders (technical + business), be developing new/innovative clean technologies for commercialization, and demonstrate environmental benefit.
• Eligible countries: Lead applicant must be Canadian (incorporated in Canada). Foreign entities are not indicated as eligible for funding under this stream.

Submission Conditions

• The SME must present an innovative technology at around TRL 5 or 6 and a commercialization path.
• The proposed innovation must deliver “quantifiable and scalable environmental benefits” for Canada (e.g., GHG reduction, improvements in air/soil/water).
• The SME should have engaged or identified a commercialization partner for the proposed innovation.
• Advisory services are provided combined with financial support. Participation in the advisory ecosystem (technology advisors/referrals) is part of the support.
