OdIn – International Places of Innovation

The funding call 'Internationale Orte der Innovation' (OdIn), issued by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to address future challenges in international value creation, foster international research cooperation, and strengthen technological sovereignty. The initiative is part of the program 'Zukunft der Wertschöpfung – Forschung zu Produktion, Dienstleistung und Arbeit' and is geared toward interdisciplinary research at the interface of technical and social sciences.

The call invites postdoctoral researchers from disciplines such as computer science, engineering, law, economics, and social sciences to collaboratively explore and develop conceptual frameworks for internationally networked value creation. Supported projects are expected to analyze international challenges, identify socio-technical innovation potentials, and experiment with novel research and communication methods.

Funding will be provided to German research institutions collaborating with one foreign-based researcher. A central element is the establishment of an “International Innovation Hub” – a location in Germany where international and interdisciplinary research teams work together for up to two years. At least 12 months must be dedicated to the foreign researcher’s on-site participation. The projects must address at least two of six thematic dimensions: resources, socio-technical/methodical innovation, collaboration, value chain dynamics, people in value creation, and business models.

The maximum funding amount per project is 500.000 Euro, and eligible costs include personnel, travel, workshops, communication, and relevant research materials. Projects must ensure alignment with the program’s overarching goals and contribute to knowledge transfer and open science.
